​​Starting or changing diabetes medication can raise a lot of questions.

You might be unsure what your medication does, why it has been prescribed, how to take it safely, or what to do if you experience side effects. When things feel confusing, it can be easy to feel worried, frustrated or unsure about taking your medicine.

MedSMART is a short, easy-to-follow workshop for people living with type 2 diabetes. Through practical activities and group discussion, you’ll learn more about diabetes medications and how they can fit into your diabetes management.

​​- how blood glucose levels can change throughout the day
- what happens in the body when someone has type 2 diabetes
- the different types of diabetes medications and why they may be used
- how to read and understand medication labels
- common side effects and what you can do about them
- how your doctor chooses which medication may be right for you
- what can get in the way of taking medication and how to manage those challenges
- how to talk with your health care team if you have questions or concerns

​​​Who is this program suitable for?

Primarily for people living with type 2 diabetes.

Where are the workshops held?

Workshops are held throughout the Perth metropolitan and rural areas throughout WA. Currently we are only offering face-to-face workshops.


Can I attend without a registration?

You must have a confirmed pre-booking, including your support person if you wish to bring someone along. Waitlist registrations are not considered a confirmed booking.

​​Can I bring a support person?

Yes, a support person is welcome to attend. Please ensure that they are registered to attend the workshop.

Do I need to be registered with the NDSS?

No, NDSS registration is not required.


What is the cost? 

All of our SMARTS workshops are free to attend for you and your support person.
